| To Be Grasped By Greatness |
|---|
|
In our Western culture greatness is synonymous with beauty, wealth, power and fame. And if we can't
find prestige and acceptance in the real world we turn to fantasy. We're terribly afraid that true
greatness will elude our grasp and we continue to grab for it because we want to believe our life
really counts for something.
However, life would go a lot better if we could develop a total grasp of greatness. What I mean, is that a grasp of greatness involves the total person, training all our senses of sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. And to achieve this, each of us must attempt to take in the sight of greatness by developing multiple perspectives. Let the viewpoint of others become as real to you as your own. And soon they'll all belong to you and you'll be richer for it. Recognize the sound of greatness. It's usually a still small voice in which your inner self, your hidden resources, would like to talk with you. It gets your attention most often late at night. As it begins to work right, you'll find yourself listening more intently to others. Develop a taste for greatness. Savour life. Let it become a banquet. Some of the best things in life have their own unique flavour, an acquired taste. That's true of music, of ideas, and most especially of persons. Respond to the touch of greatness. A caress motivates. Gentleness with yourself, and with others, makes things happen faster, with more lasting results. Catch the aroma of greatness. In humans, the sense of smell is the weakest of our senses in its effect on conscious life, but is the strongest in its impact on our unconscious. The importance of this is quickly recognized when we realize that our unconscious is the reservoir of solutions for so many of our conscious problems. If we could internalize Goethe's reminder, "Every moment is of infinite worth," we could actually live in an atmosphere of greatness. Greatness truly is all around us…and is just waiting to be grasped. Friend, do you desire to be great? Well, in the most important sense of the word You Can Be Great-and that's the subject of a small booklet we would be pleased to send you if you really have a desire for life's deepest and fullest meaning.
